ABOUT VILLAGE BEADS

As Wellington’s only specialised bead store, we stock a whole range of jewellery components and findings, and of course have hundreds and thousands of beads in a whole range of colours, sizes, and shapes!

We provide classes for both adults and kids who want to meet other like minded creators, or need a bit more structure and guidance with their beading. As well as this, we take walk-ins if you just want to come in and have a play with designs, need jewellery to match a special outfit, or want to re-vamp old jewellery in to something fresh! Bookings are highly recommended in advance, and are required for birthday parties. 

If craft is not your thing and something needs fixing, we also have an excellent repair service available.

As well as beads and beading, we have a plethora of jewellery for sale, most of which is handmade onsite! We have all the tools and materials for jewellery making you'll need, as well as a great selection of giftware, bags and scarves.

Meet the Team

  • JASMINE - OWNER

    Jasmine began her time here in 2021 while juggling studying & her own jewellery business. In April 2026 Jasmine became our new owner, taking over after managing the store since 2024.

  • SAM - MANAGER

    Sam has worked at Village Beads for close to 10 years now, and also runs Snowfox Ceramics. Sam runs our website admin and helps make Jasmine’s ideas a reality, her experience is invaluable!

  • MIAH

    Miah started working at Village Beads in 2021 while studying towards her degree in Music! She has since released her own music, have a listen here, and you might hear it playing in store too!

  • LOUISA

    Louisa is a creative bundle of joy, and an expert problem solver! She has started up her own porcelain charm business, Votive Jewels!

  • BETH

    Beth began her time here at the start of 2023, and is our birthday party co-ordinator and weekend superstar! She has just began studying a Bachelor of Arts at VUW.

  • NATASHA

    Natasha is perfect at all of our little, fiddly jobs, and has just opened her own baking business - Little Bakes by Tash!

  • CHARLOTTE

    Charlotte is our newest team member and our weekend superstar. Her specialty is making beaded critter creations!

  • DEBBIE - FOUNDER

    Our delightful founder Debbie has been in the bead business for over 20 years, and has set up her Bead Studio running out of her new home in Napier South!

We are fortunate to have many different helpers too!

Ru is our expert pounamu braider and specialises in the trickiest little repair jobs, Lynne does all of our pearl reknottings, and Chloe comes and help out when we are super busy! Our fabulous window displays are designed and brought to life by the amazing Julie- send her an email for more information!

It certainly takes a village to run Village Beads!

General Information

  • Our store is located at 129 Jackson Street in Petone, Lower Hutt. Our block is situated in between Nelson Street (east) and Sydney Street (west).

    There are paid parking spaces available out the front of the shop, and usually free parking available down the side streets. Parking along Jackson Street is also free on public holidays.

    We are around a 15 minute walk from Petone Train Station and there are multiple bus routes that stop on Jackson Street.

  • We have attempted to make our store as accessible as possible, and the front doors and most of the store interior is wheelchair and pram friendly. Our toilet facilities are open to customer use but unfortunately are not wheelchair accessible. There are public toilets a short distance away.

    We have a baby change table available for use out the back too.

  • You are welcome to bring in any drinks with you, and have water available on site that we can provide on request.

    We ask that you refrain from eating in store while at our classes and beading sessions, as the space is fairly small and our products can be made messy and unclean from food products.
